CTIA and its participating members have taken steps to promote the environmentally sound disposition of used wireless devices. Just drop off or return your old wireless device, charger, or its accessories to one of these programs or company locations to ensure that the items are recycled in an environmentally sound way.

The description below briefly summarizes current company programs and provides a link to information about where you can drop off or return your wireless devices for proper recycling.

Alltell Alltel encourages customers to take advantage of their EcoSmart program by recycling their used wireless handsets in specially marked drop boxes at more than 500 Alltel stores. It is the company’s goal to remove nearly 1 million pounds of electronic waste from landfills each year. Phones donated under this program are refurbished or recycled to help raise funds for various charities.
AT&TAT&T Reuse & Recycle is a national program that encourages the proper disposal of electronic waste. Consumers are invited to bring unwanted wireless phones, PDA’s, accessories and batteries (regardless of the manufacturer or carrier) to AT&T stores and participating authorized dealer stores for recycling.
Bluegrass Cellular Bluegrass Cellular provides environmentally sound methods for the disposal of wireless phones through the company’s collection efforts.  Bluegrass partners’ with The Wireless Alliance, an organization that provides recycle boxes at each retail store and ensures a new collection box is provided after a store fills their previous container.
Call To Protect The Wireless Foundation - The national CALL TO PROTECT program enables people to retire their wireless phones in a manner that will help the environment and provide phones, with matching airtime, to domestic violence agencies. The funds generated through CALL TO PROTECT collections have provided grants to national organizations leading the campaign to end domestic violence.
Kyocera Wireless Corp.Kyocera’s goal is to contribute to society by developing Earth-friendly products and technologies with environmental and economic benefits - such as solar modules and pollution-reducing fine ceramic components. The company strives to provide attractive products and services while taking active measures to prevent global warming, reduce waste, promote energy efficiency and conserve resources.
MotorolaMotorola is a strong proponent and supporter of global environmental sustainability and recycling programs. In partnership with the company’s carriers, customers and recyclers, and on its own, Motorola operates takeback programs across the globe. The company accepts any mobile phone or accessory for recycling, which helps recover valuable materials and reduce impact on the environment. Motorola also created the Race to Recycle program, an innovative fundraising opportunity for K-12 schools, which allows them to earn extra money by recycling old mobile phones.
Nokia Nokia's strategy for sustainable environmental development covers the whole value chain and is implemented through four key programs: Design for Environment, Supplier Network Management, Environmental Management Systems, and sound End-of-Life Practices.
ReCellular ReCellular is the world's largest reseller, refurbisher and recycler of used cell phones. Established in 1991, ReCellular has pioneered profitable cell phone recycling programs for organizations including wireless manufacturers, carriers, businesses, grass-root organizations and charities worldwide.

Sprint Together with Nextel Sprint
Wireless recycling is an important part of Sprint's environmental commitment. By donating your retired wireless phones, batteries, and accessories to Sprint Project Connect you will not only prevent these devices from ending up in land fills, you are also making a contribution to Sprint’s 4NetSafety program which helps keep kids safe online. All net proceeds from Sprint Project Connect are put toward 4NetSafety.
T-Mobile Huddle Up ProgramT-Mobile's Handset Recycling Program promotes the recycling and reuse of old wireless devices that might otherwise end up in landfills or incinerators--and 100% of the net proceeds from handset recycling now benefit the charitable efforts of the T-Mobile Huddle Up program. T-Mobile Huddle Up is a national community outreach program that connects kids, primarily from single-parent families in high-need, urban communities to positive people, places, and programs. You may drop off your device at any T-Mobile retail store.
Verizon Wireless

Old Phones Give Victims A "HopeLine"

Verizon Wireless embraces a philosophy of commitment to the community. Its exclusive HopeLine program collects wireless phones that are no longer being used and either refurbishes or recycles them. With the funds raised from the sale of the refurbished phones, Verizon Wireless will purchase wireless phones and donate airtime to victims of domestic violence. Verizon also participates in Call2Recycle which is a cell phone battery recycling program. To participate simply drop your used rechargeable battery at any Verizon retail location nationwide, please see the above link for a location near you.
